Côte Chalonnaise (112)

Côte ChalonnaiseThe vineyards stretch on a distance of 25 km between the Côte de Beaune in the North and the hills of Mâconnais in the South.

The slopes show vineyards of great charm around the villages of Montagny, Givry, Mercurey, Rully.

The soil is made of clay and limestone. The climate is semi-continental with very pleasant months of September that help the grapes ripening harmoniously.

The grape varieties are the noble ones of Burgundy : the Pinot Noir grows predominantly in Givry and Mercurey ; the Chardonnay is the main grape variety in Rully and it is even the only one in Montagny.

One must also know about the Aligoté grape in the village of Bouzeron that gives an excellent result in this viticultural area.

The Côte Chalonnaise is able to produce high quality wines at reasonable prices. Many vineyards are classified as Premiers Crus and their wines are really worth a try.
