Côte de Nuits (288)
Vineyards cover a narrow strip of land that streches on twenty kilometers starting in Marsannay, just South of Dijon, and going down South to the village of Corgoloin.
The width of the vineyards is only 200 to 300 meters.
This viticutural area shows most of the greatest red wines of Burgundy, like the famous Grands Crus Chambertin, Romanée Saint-Vivant, Clos-Vougeot, and so on…
As early as the 10th centry, the Cistercian monks have worked hard in order to build up the quality and the fame of this Côte de Nuits region.
Numerous excellent Premiers Crus Vineyards are also located in well-known villages like Vosne-Romanée, Gevrey-Chambertin, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis.
The soil is made of clay and limestone and drainage is perfect.
The climate is semi-continental with hot summers, but cool nights. The exposure of the vineyards is facing East or South-East depending on the growths.
This is why the noble grape variety Pinot Noir gives the greatest red wines in the world, although the region lies fairly up North in comparison with other viticultural areas in the world.
